This year’s Annual Appeal letter comes at a time when the Kenan Center Campus is navigating uncertain times brought on by a novel virus, which is why giving this year is so important. To say this has affected us profoundly as an organization would be an understatement. We have all collectively been affected and it will continue until there is some certainty about treatment.

Why do I give to the Kenan Center? The Kenan Center has the ability to bring people and community together. As our mission says, we enrich lives by providing the community with cultural, educational, and recreational activities. This year has been quite different, starting when we had to close our campus down for three months. Since reopening in July, the creativity of programming that has come out of this has been astounding. KARE kits (Kenan Arts Recreation & Education) were sent home to replace in-person summer youth classes. Musical concerts were relocated outside in the Kenan Gardens. Virtual Coffee with Kenan helped to fill the void of in-person performances too. The Art of Suffrage Exhibition and the Buffalo Society of Artists 124th Catalogue Exhibition has been brought to you by remote viewing and small gallery viewing appointments only. Kenan Montessori Preschool opened in September at only half capacity. Youth soccer was reimagined in a pod format to adhere to social distancing guidelines. As an organization, we have adapted to offer programming in a remote environment as well as in-person. Our capacity for programming, however, is significantly down. Much of our summer programming was cancelled including KidQuest. We were unable to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our signature event—100 American Craftsmen. There have been weddings, concerts and gallery exhibitions cancelled on the Kenan Campus. As we go forward this year, many of the events we offer will continue to be affected. The Taylor Theater is yet to reopen. As a not-for-profit, programming and events are important for generating revenue to keep Kenan Center alive! Due to the pandemic, we are down significantly in revenue even while expenses and upkeep remain.

As we actively engage in our annual appeal, I ask that you consider donating to the Kenan Center for your annual charitable giving. If you have benefitted from the Kenan Center over the past 53 years, please consider donating. This year more than ever we need community support. A one-time financial gift or monthly pledging is a great way to support the Kenan Center. I am grateful to all the people and organizations that have given in the past and ask for your support in 2020.
